March 2025 - Exciting news: Our name has changed, and we’ve expanded our mission to serve the entire city as the Escondido Fire Safe Council, continuing our commitment to fire safety, hazard reduction, and community preparedness across all of Escondido!

Fulfilling Our Mission and Expanding Our Impact

Our Fire Safe Council began as a grassroots effort within our homeowners' association when a small group of residents formed the Wildfire Committee. Recognizing the fire risks posed by our 22 acres of common area and 71 homes, we set out to better understand defensible space, home hardening, and other wildfire prevention strategies.

During that journey, we discovered the existence of Fire Safe Councils—40 of them in Southern California alone. Seeing the opportunities this presented, we pursued official designation and, in August 2022, became an accredited Fire Safe Council.

This designation has opened many doors, allowing us to collaborate with key fire agencies, including local city fire departments, County Fire, CAL FIRE, the Insurance Commission, the Burn Institute, the Red Cross, and more. It has also enabled us to secure grants each year to assist residents, educate homeowners, and motivate people to take proactive steps in protecting their properties from wildfire.

Now, as an established and experienced Fire Safe Council, we are expanding our reach. Initially focused on the southwest area of Escondido, we are now committed to serving the entire city. Our goal is to extend our knowledge and resources to every resident—whether in single-family homes, mobile home parks, condominiums, apartments, businesses, or even homeless encampments. Wildfire safety is a shared responsibility, and everyone plays a role in keeping our community safe.

Our ultimate goal is zero urban wildfire, but achieving this requires collective action. We are seeking business partners to support us financially as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), as well as passionate individuals eager to get involved. Whether by serving as a board member, organizing educational outreach events, or contributing in other ways, there is no limit to how you can help make Escondido a safer place.

Together, we can build a fire-resilient community. Will you join us?
